one thing i learnt from today's sermon: "Faithfulness to God can be and should be practiced when we are in exile - in places where people do not uphold our beliefs and values."

Then i was invited to an indonesian church. Went for youth service at 3pm and then followed on for the main service at 5pm to 7.30pm. It was long but inspiring. haha...
Rev Dr Stephen Tong. Every week he has to travel between indonesia singapore and hongkong to give sermons without fail. One of the most influential preachers in this age. He touched on the issue of wisdom. I shall try to recall as much as i can what he said and translate into english haha...
Once God told King Solomon that he can have one wish. Ask and it will be given. He could have asked for wealth fame or power, but instead he asked for wisdom. If you think about it, asking for wisdom in itself is an act of wisdom. By acknowledging himself to be someone of finite understanding, he will attain more wisdom through his many humble experiences.
Wisdom also does not necessarily come with knowledge. A person can be extremely knowledgeable, but without wisdom to utilise the knowledge, he will just be like a car without a steering wheel, bound to stray off from its course.
Yet, we must not be too confident of our own wisdom. If we put too much trust in our ability to restrain ourselves from temptation and instead challenge ourselves by walking straight into the den of evil, we might falter and lose our resolve.
Miller, a well-known consultant for broken families, has healed many failed marriages and prevented countless divorces. He was known as the Savior of Broken Marriages. However, it is shocking for many of his clients when they learnt that he himself has gotten into a divorce. He wrote a book soon after the divorce, and he concluded with a sentence: 'Do not think that something that u assume can only happen to others might not happen to yourself.'
Instead of relying of our own ability and the worldly 'wisdom', we should put our trust in the Lord to put things according to His will.
John Calvin said: when I kneel down and rest upon the Lord, I would be secure and unshaken. But once I depend on myself and tries to stand up, I would be lose my balance and easily swayed.
