Sunday 10Feb
Arrived at sydney, impressed with the weather. My mom's cousin picked us up and helped us to settle down.
Along the way i took some pics...

Randwick area around the campus is really packed with LOTS of restaurants. Indonesian food, chinese food and indian food etc etc. And for newcomers, you might want to visit the Westfield mall often because all the things you ever need can be found there, KMart, Woolworth (kinda like NTUC) and all the mobile service providers (telstra, 3, vodafone, and optus)
Then during the evening we toured around the campus. Since its sunday afternoon there is barely anyone in the campus.
entered from here

The Kensington colleges up the steps: made up of Basser, Goldstein and Philip Baxter colleges.
going up the stairs...
thats Goldstein College
and the Philip Baxter College. I will be staying here...

The notice board. It was so nicely damaged it looked bloody abstract
FM Assist: come here to get your Student ID
The Med Fac. This is as far as i can go since its late
more abstract notice boards
Campus Commonwealth Bank
Campus Post Office
The John Niland Scientia Building

Campus scenery at night
and then we went to Belmore road for KFC

Found this shop which sells towels, bedsheets and bedcovers for really cheap.
So i thought, for those coming over here, just get these things here and invest the luggage weight on something more worthwhile. Its closed though. Most shops here close at 5pm.

Monday 11Feb
Settled most of the necessary applications, so nothing much to tell here.
Basically:
- Enrolled for my course online
- Applied for the Student ID
- Open a bank account
- Get a phone number
- Shop arnd
- Check out my hostel rooms
Tuesday 12Feb
This is where the fun starts haha... Went to take the CBD area and did a full exploration of the whole place =D took a full day monorail concession and literally get down at every stop and toured around. There are 8 stations in total, and since its a loop and doesnt cover a large area, its only one-way. And the stations are like, about 2 blocks apart so can actually walk.
1.Convention Station (i put this first since its i started off here)
This is where the Convention center is, just like the one in suntec where they hold all the impt events. Didnt go in here though. Came here to park our rented car for a full day at a price of A$25... The pains of renting a car is paying for the bloody parking fees.
2.Paddy's Markets Station
This market's been around since 1834, located just beside the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Spoilerfree: not gonna show you wads inside haha... come see for yourselves.
3.Chinatown Station
Chinatown lohz... Every country bopian has to have one cuz the chinese are kicking asses kthnxbai.
went arnd but nvr take pics, because at this point, the heavens decided to take a piss.

4.World Square Station
More shops. From this station, We walked all the way to City Center station, through Galeries Victoria station. Along the way i found a ComicsWorld shop selling my beloved marvel comics and some animes so i am teh relieved. haha... at least i found a place to pursue my hobby
5.Galeries Victoria Station
Dint go this stop, but it stops right outside the Galeries Victoria. There is a large kinokuniya bookstore here just like the one in taka. And med books here cost a nuclear bomb. But at least i did find anime magazines too haha...
6.City Center Station
This is where the awesomeuberliciously chio Queen Victoria Building is located. Outside it looks like a historical monument, but inside its a slick shopping mall. And there is a train station connected below too.
Outside...
Inside...

A replica of Queen Victoria and her crowns and jewels
"and with this I, the Queen, shall knight you as, Sir Drew" haha...
This ladies has the priviledge of having their very own designated toilet, and it comes along with a sliding door.
The Gentlemans toilet? DONT EXIST at all!!! i wan go inside look look n take pics but cannot.
Next we went to the sky tower here...
the price is reasonable. SkyTower+OzTrek package for adults is 24.50 and for students is 18.50
Oztrek is really fun. It has 3D simulations of sydney attractions, and then a virtual coaster ride of places around australia.
Went up the sky tower, and we have the larger picture of the area...
overlooking the Syndey Bridge and Opera House
Darlin Harbour
Some dunnowad memorial
It took me reaally long to find this thru the binoculars. See the UNSW sign?
Singapore should be somewhere over theeeere... *points*
7.Darling Park Station & 8.Harbourside Station
Darling Park station and Harbourside stations are teh bestest out of all the stations. They run along the darling harbor bridge which connects between the two shores.
The harbor

Sydney Wildlife World & Sydney Aquarium

For dinner, we ate at Pancakes on the Rock. Ordered all these
The Devil's Delight
and the Chicken&Bacon Pizza

A damn nice water fountain
and the place even comes along with a perfomer :D
and finally we went back to the Convention Station and paid the A$25 parking fee T . T
Wednesday 13Feb (today)
came to use the unsw library and post up this blog entry (which i drafted out yesterday night in my hotel)
Gonna visit the Sydney Opera House later, and probably Double Bay and Bondi Beach soon. haha... so cya and write to me, anything, haha... even abt any crap that fel has done lately.
Hopefully this entry is easy to follow haha... Afraid it might be confusing since i just spam everything into one entry :s
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Tips
Oh and for fellow singaporean med students who happen to read until this point... congrats! haha... here are some tips
Once you come to sydney, pls do attend the Arriving and Surviving section. Its available on (from today onwards) Feb 13,15,18,20,22,25,26,27,28,29 and March 1,4,6,8, so just attend any one of the dates.
If you want to get a phone line, i think we should all sign up with the same provider together, then we can call each other for free =D haha... (eg. vodafone users can call other vodafone users for free)
but up to you guys. I'm using prepaid card now so can still change.
And then you need to get one of the following...
- Get student ID
- open bank account (good one would be commonwealth bank since its EvERYWHERE, including campus. Opening student account is free)
- Apply for visa with work permit (optional)
- finally... sightsee haha. Drews Tours & Travel is open 24/7 =D
For now, while you are in singapore, pls do the ENROLMENT which started on 2feb. I thought i did but it didnt show up on their database, so i have to go to the library to enrol. All this steps should be found in the welcome package, which i didnt get since i didnt attend the session in singapore ;_;
And it takes 12-24 hours of processing time so you have to wait 2 days to apply for the Student ID if you just enrolled. I returned to the FM Assist 3 times and in all 3 occasions my records havent been processed yet, but the woman there is kind enough to trust me and issue my ID only based on my UniPass and CoE.
Since you guys are still in singapore pls do complete this step so there wont be much hassle once you come over to the uni, and you can get the Student ID right away. Just have your passport and CoE ready.
And for those who dun have an accomodation yet, i have compiled a list of available ones along the way so can ask frm me and i can juz zip everything and email them to you.
There is also a whole lot of lists, too many to list down all, right outside my dorm.
For females, there are even more female-only accomodation so you no longer have to fewl shy abt living w guys.
And some of the activities that are available around this period...
- Accomodation Workshops (26Feb, 2pm-3pm)
- Pathways to Australian PR, (28Feb, 3pm-4pm)
- How to Look for part time or casual work, (27Feb, 2pm-3pm)
- Nooks & Crannies Campus Tour, (15,22&29Feb&7Mar, 1pm)
- International Students Welcome BBQ, (28Feb, 1pm-2pm)
- ISS Shopping Trips (21&28Feb, 5pm-7pm)
- Sydney Nightlife Tours (7Mar, 6pm) [whooooo...]
- Welcome Dinner (14Mar, 6pm-9pm)
- Sydney City Sights Tour (15Mar, 8.45am-1.30pm)
And finally, the Orientation Getaway on 29Feb to 2Mar to Narrabeen Lakes. Sounds fun but muz pay AUD$180 since its after 1Feb. Who's going?
Okay... after saying so much pls do say something back haha... I'm L0n3LY ;(
=D frm drew
